O SAY CAN YOU SEE
This painting depicts a little cowboy at a small-town rodeo, standing at attention, hat in hand, as the National Anthem plays. His faithful dog sits beside him, looking raptly up at the waving flag just outside our view. I hope this piece invokes in you a feeling of sweet nostalgia.

BOY & COLT - LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT
The photo for this commission was one of those wonderful things that sometimes just happens. The little boy's mom was there at the right time with a camera. I love doing a painting that tells a story, and this one is just full of sweetness. The painting took over 2 months to complete, there is so much going on - and I wanted to capture all of it! From the shimmer of the colts's coat to his blue eyes, to the wood grain of the barn, to the straw bedding, to the little boy's camo rain boots, and the expression on the boy's face as he pets his new best friend.

RELAXING AFTER THE HORSE SHOW
This commission is another example of a wonderful photograph that tells a story and just begs to be made into a painting! Again, Mom was there at just the right time with a camera. In this painting, you see a show horse, tired from a long day of competition, falling asleep with his head in his person's lap. I loved all the details here: the horse, with the braids still in his mane, lower lip sagging, peacefully resting. The girl, her hair still in a hairnet and bobby pins, sweatshirt pulled on over her show clothes, shavings stuck to her seat, cradling the head of her beloved horse as he dozes.

AVERY & FISHNET STOCKINGS
This commission was tricky. In the original reference photo, the boy was sitting on grandpa's shoulders and they are standing in front of the horse. The client wanted grandpa removed from the picture and the boy sitting on the horse. This required several more photos to see what the horse's coat pattern looked like behind grandpa, and the coat pattern had to be foreshortened to fit the angle of the horse. The angle of the boy's leg had to be changed to 'fit' around the body of the horse. I added a cowboy hat and boots to complete the painting. Creating a custom painting based on a compilation of different reference photos is not always possible to do convincingly. But I love the challenge and will evaluate all requests on a case-by-case basis.

OLD SOULS
Best of friends meeting at the garden wall in early evening, while the light is still warm and glowing. Extra fine details in the old woman's face and hair, and the cat's face as well. The rest of the painting is softer and more loosely rendered to keep the attention on the faces of these two old friends' affectionate greeting.

BOY MEETS GIRL
From my 'Outdoor Cafe' series, this fun and whimsical painting tells a story of contrasts. She with her elegant dress and expensive glass of wine, sitting with her fancy diamond-collared poodle. He with his casual attire, can of beer, and rambunctious golden retriever in tow. The people see only their differences and let an opportunity pass. Their dogs, however, ignore the differences and see only the chance to get acquainted!

BOY MEETS GIRL - PART 2
The second from my 'Outdoor Cafe' series, this fun and whimsical painting tells a different story of contrasts. The couple, very much into the moment, would be happy to linger for hours. Their four-legged companions, however, are obviously tired of all this human romance and are ready to wrap up the evening and go home. Plenty of detail here: from the lace on the hem of the girl's skirt to the fine rendering of the fur on both dogs. Even the chairs feature intricate designs. With the potted plants and flowering trees, and a hint of cobblestones and ochre-colored walls in the background, this painting has the feel of a European sidewalk cafe'.

This sweetly amusing scene depicts two girls enjoying a day at the beach, the woman with her book, and the little Frenchie with her tennis ball. These two definitely have style, rocking their matching red sunglasses and nail polish.
